12:00 PM - 4:00 PM CST

Event Description
American Pop Artist & Author Michael Albert Touring the Midwest this Summer with over 75 Stops in 9 states including 20 stops in South Dakota!

Mr. Albert was born & raised on Long Island in New York and currently lives & works in White Plains, New York. Albert is the author of an artist autobiography titled, “An Artist’s America” (Henry Holt, 2008) and is nationally known for making collage artworks from Cereal boxes & other printed cardboard consumer brand packages. His work has been described as a cross between Pop Art, Cubism & Recycling.

Albert’s Pop is often referred to as “Modern” since he’s been creating it for the past 25 years and still creates new works on a regular basis, whereas the Pop Art movement began almost 70 years ago with the 'old masters’ such as: Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein and others who started creating art themed about everyday things (products & objects) & subjects (current events, etc). Albert’s “Portrait of An American Classic”, Frosted Flakes Box Collage was his official beginning as a Modern Pop Artist back in 1996. He calls that collage, ’The Birth of Cerealism’!  Since that breakthrough creation, he has created over 700 collages from Cereal boxes like this, and thousands more with different themes, all artworks using the same everyday materials. He says that his true goal in all of this work & effort is to create a masterpiece worthy of hanging in a major museum like the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City.

He will be bringing his nationally renowned “Modern Pop Art Experience” Art programs to 75 cities in 9 midwestern states this summer including: Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Wyoming, Montana & South Dakota. He has been running this program for over a decade & has brought it to over 1,000 libraries, museums, arts events & schools in 40 states!  He will be bringing the program to many cities across the midwest for the first time this summer!

The “Modern Pop Art Experience” generally includes an ARTIST APPEARANCE (Meet the Artist!), ARTIST TALK & PRESENTATION - where Mr. Albert Introduces himself to the group, shows examples of his works and tells the group about the project they are about to do, a HANDS-ON COLLAGE WORKSHOP where the participants get to create their own collages using the same materials he uses to create his serious works of art, and the 2-hour program finishes with a FREE POSTER GIVEAWAY & SIGNING - Mr. Albert brings about 20 different prints (which he has self-published in limited quantities) for the each participant to choose from as a special gift for coming to the event.

In South Dakota, he will be running programs all around the state in 20 cities in addition to Pierre including: Rapid City, Keystone, Sturgis, Wall, Chamberlain, Presho, Huron, Winner, Lake Andes, Beresford, Canton, Lennox, Parker, North Sioux City, Brookings, Watertown, Mitchell, Yankton & Vermillion!

The whirlwind "Michael Albert Summer Pop Art Tour" starts with programs in Illinois, works its way into Iowa, then heads to Wisconsin for some programs, back into Iowa & westward into South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana & Nebraska before heading back east for more programs in SD, Minnesota, Iowa & Illinois and then heading back home to New York!

He will running his famous cereal box collage workshop art program for the first time on Sunday July 17th / Afternoon Session from 12-4pm.Greetings from SD 2021
