Your Volunteer Oath & Orientation

As a volunteer, you promise to put the health and safety of visitors and program participants before all else and to work to enhance the experience of all through access to hands-on science. You also promise to be respectful of SDDC employees and other volunteers. All persons interested in volunteering must submit a SDDC Volunteer Application; if you are working with children, you must also pass a background check. The SDDC reserves the right to decline or terminate your offer of volunteering at any time.

Upon acceptance of your volunteer application, you must be able and willing to meet with our Volunteer Coordinator, Allison. She leads an open volunteer orientation every Tuesday, 12-1pm, and Thursday, 4-5pm. I understand that I have entered into a volunteer relationship with the South Dakota Discovery Center and acknowledge that I shall not expect to receive any payment for the volunteer talents and services I contribute to the SDDC.
I can terminate my volunteer service at any time and for any reason.
The South Dakota Discovery Center also reserves the right to end my volunteer service whenever the center deems it to be in the best interest of The South Dakota Discovery Center.
I certify that the information in my application for volunteer service is accurate to the best of my knowledge and belief.
I understand that any omission of facts or misrepresentation is cause for denial of service and dismissal regardless of when discovered.
I grant permission for the authorities of The South Dakota Discovery Center to investigate any reference provided and release them from any liability resulting from such investigation.
I agree that my acceptance of volunteering is contingent upon successfully meeting background check requirements (if over 18).
I further agree that if I have been convicted of a crime, the authorities of The South Dakota Discovery Center may obtain the details of the conviction to determine its relationship to the volunteer service.
I understand that The South Dakota Discovery Center may take photographs for its publications and other uses, such as publications, print ads, social media, website media, and other forms of promotion.
I further acknowledge that this application is neither a contract of volunteer service, employment, nor a legal document.
I understand that I should contact the Director of the SDDC with any questions regarding this application or any other policy of The South Dakota Discovery Center.
