We’ve been talking a lot about #DebrisTracker & are so excited to host a  scientist to talk abt plastic pollution. Nat Geo Explorer Justine Ammendiola will join us for Discovery On Tap. 

Justine Ammendolia (she/her) is a marine biologist, plastic pollution researcher and science communicator based out of Toronto, Canada. In 2014, she was awarded the National Geographic Young Explorer Grant to travel to Eastern Greenland to research Arctic seabirds and lived off-grid for 6 weeks. During this time, she fostered a deep passion for protecting the corners of our planet. Since this project Justine has worked on better understanding the issue of plastic pollution using citizen science tools and developing monitoring techniques. Her work is diverse and ranges from surveying marine debris on remote Newfoundland coastlines to monitoring COVID-19 plastic pollution on the streets of Canada’s biggest city. Justine is also passionate about sharing her experiences in STEM with young women entering the field; through her research and communication, Justine aims to inspire others to care about protecting our environment.
