Description:
Join us for the ribbon cutting of our newest Discovery Town addition and a day with fun activities around health careers: Grandma Kay’s Wee Care offers kids learning opportunities in the health profession through a real woman of STEM. The newborn nursery was built through a memorial gift honoring Kay Parker.

Kay Parker worked as a Registered Nurse for over 60 years and was employed by St. Mary’s Hospital (Avera) in Pierre for over 50 years.   Kay graduated from the Methodist School of Nursing (Dakota Wesleyan University).  During her career, she worked in the emergency room, medical surgical floor, ICU, Director of Nursing and surgery.

She was instrumental over her career providing guidance for fellow co-workers in the nursing field and other medical staff.  She helped implement many standards for quality patient care as well as provide the care needed for all patients.  She was well respected by fellow co-workers and patients.     She set an example for many……

Her greatest loves were her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, along with numerous other children she call her ‘babies”.    She loved nothing better than spending time playing with them, watching their sporting events or just spending time on the Missouri River.”
